 Southbroom St James Academy Equality Information and Objectives

 

The 2010 Equality Act places a duty on schools to publish Equality information and objectives on an annual basis.

 

At Southbroom St James Academy we aspire to:

 

• eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Act;

• advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic1 and people who do not share it; and

• foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

 

We describe these as the three aims of the Equality Duty.

 

Guidance for Church of England schools states that:

 

Central to Christian theology is the truth that every single one of us is made in the image of God. Every one of us is loved unconditionally by God. We must avoid, at all costs, diminishing the dignity of any individual to a stereotype or a problem. Church of England schools offer a community where everyone is a person known and loved by God, supported to know their intrinsic value. 3

Staff training specific to ensuring equality throughout the school

Expected outcome

Southbroom St Academy values and ethos are embedded and evidenced in class observations, classrooms and displays throughout the school

Celebration assemblies are used to share examples of children displaying school values

Decide upon a curriculum which aim to broaden the knowledge and address diversity issues representative of various stakeholders within the school

Establish a reward system in place linked to the vision and values
