Welcome back to school, we hope you had a relaxing break.
This term we are going ‘Out of this World’! We will be learning about Earth and Space in Science and linking this closely to our Topic work.
In English we are continuing to read Carrie’s War in Teaching of Reading. Our Sentence Staking texts this term are ‘A Monster Calls’ by Patrick Ness, and the traditional tale of ‘Goldilocks’. Maths will continue to focus on key skills and developing reasoning and problem solving skills.
In PE, Mandela will continue swimming on Mondays during November. Churchill have PE on Thursdays and the whole of Year 6 will have Games on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on these days.
We have a couple of trips/ events lined up this term. We will be going to the Winchester Science Centre for a day focused on Science and Space and be holding a ‘Star Gazing’ evening in early December; dates to be confirmed soon.
A new home learning sheet is now available online and a paper copy has also been sent home. We recommend at least six pieces of work are completed across the term. We would also like to clarify that children should be reading at least 4 times a week at home and logging their reading in their Reading Record Books. Spellings are issued on a Friday with the expectation that they are written out at least once a day in the Spelling Diary provided. We would also strongly encourage the children to be learning their multiplication tables to support work in Maths lessons, tables quizzes and the Golden 144.
If anyone is able to come into school to support learning, you would be most welcome: particularly if you have an expertise in an area of learning we are covering this term. Please let one of us know if you are able to help in this way.
Welcome back after our summer break. We have an action packed term ahead of us and look forward to working with our new classes.
Our reading focus for Terms 1 and 2 will be 'Carrie's War' by Nina Bowden. In English we focusing on sentence stacking, using Philip Pullman's 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' and a short animated film called 'Paperman'.
This term our topic focus will be Mexico and the Mayans, in science we will be learning all about light and in RE we will be looking at the five pillars of Islam.
Churchill will be starting the term swimming on a Monday afternoon, please ensure swimming kit is in school each Monday for this. PE will take place on a Friday afternoon, but please ensure that PE kit is in school everyday in case of last minute timetable changes.
